Monotype
Monotype is a print made with paints: stains of paint (with or without water) are applied to a sheet of paper, another blank sheet is placed on top, pressed and smoothed.
It turns out two sheets with an unusual spotted pattern. It can be used either as a background for a future drawing, or it can be modified, adding details, turning a shapeless spot into a full-fledged drawing. If you take not two sheets, but one folded in half, the paint will print almost like a mirror image. This version of the technique produces watercolor landscapes very well: the clearer half is, say, a forest, and the blurrier half is the reflection of the forest in some body of water. All that remains is to finalize the details.
Watercolor and drawing ink
Since watercolor and ink are transparent, fluid paints that require a lot of water, monotype using them can be done in two ways. First, you can moisten a sheet of paper with water, and then apply paint with a wide brush or drops. Secondly, you can apply paint to a dry sheet and then dilute it with drops of water. The results in both cases will be noticeably different.
Don't use too much paint and not enough water - the prints will be too bright. If, on the contrary, you need to get rid of excess liquid, blot the sheet with a crumpled paper napkin or sprinkle coarse salt on the paper. This will also create unusual textures. After the paint has dried, you can simply shake off the salt.
Acrylic and gouache
These paints, unlike watercolors and inks, are dense and opaque. The prints are also different: they are textured and textured (especially when using acrylic). By the way, absolutely any acrylic is suitable for monotype. If you use thick, undiluted paint, when you remove the second sheet (if you remove without moving) you will get beautiful tree-like or coral-like structures. If you move or rotate it slightly when removing the top sheet, you will get a beautiful and textured smearing effect.
Let's start creating: fingers or palms
Non-traditional drawing techniques involve depicting images using various materials, including “non-artistic” ones: crumpled paper, foam rubber, threads, paraffin candle or wax crayons, dried leaves; drawing without using a tool - with your palms or fingers and much more. Such methods are successfully used both in kindergarten and at home.
For different ages, you can offer your own technique, for example, the little ones will find it interesting to paint with their fingers, because it is still difficult for a baby to hold a brush, but the baby already has excellent control of his own hands. Dip your little one's palm into the paint and ask her to leave a mark on the paper, just as cats and dogs leave marks. Look at the print with your baby, who does it look like? It looks like an elephant or a turtle, and if we add an eye, there will be a fish! The whole action is guided only by your baby’s imagination, and if suddenly he is confused, then help him, conduct a master class - paint your palm and leave a print. “Look, the mother turned out to be an elephant, but where is the baby elephant?” - the child will be happy to join in such a funny game.
You can dip your entire palm in the paint, but only your fingers, and leave tiny prints. The more multi-colored prints, the more interesting the drawing - let the child fantasize for his own pleasure. Adults should be prepared for the fact that the paint will be not only on the piece of paper, but also on the baby, or rather, the baby will be covered in it and the surrounding objects too. Therefore, take care of cleanliness in advance: cover the table where you plan to set up a creative workshop with oilcloth, and put on an apron and sleeves on your baby, otherwise, what kind of flight of fancy can we talk about if you constantly tell your baby: “Be careful, you’ll get dirty!”
Pencil drawings for beginners
Aging paper with lemon and milk
This is a "pre-drawing" technique used to give paper the appearance of an old yellowed page. Apply drops of lemon juice to a clean sheet of paper; some can be smeared. Lime juice will also work. When the juice dries, iron the sheet with an iron. The lemon juice will darken, creating an aging effect. In addition, the sheet will also wrinkle slightly, which will give it an even greater resemblance to old paper.
Instead of lemon juice, you can use full-fat milk or cream. This method dates back to ancient times when milk was used as invisible ink. Apply milk with a brush to a piece of paper and let dry. Then iron the sheet or heat it in another way. The milk will turn brown and tint the leaf in an antiqued manner.
Origin of the word frottage
Frottage has French roots, translated the word “ frott ” - means to rub or rub.
The founder of the frotage technique is considered to be Max Ernst, a German painter who lived from 1891 to 1976. This event took place in 1925. The artist was impressed by the beauty of the natural pattern on the wooden floor.
Instead of redrawing it, he took the paper, laid it on the floor and began to rub it with charcoal.
The method very quickly became popular and spread to different countries. The artists selected objects with the texture they needed. They arranged them together and rubbed them with lead on top. The resulting natural textures were further refined with paints. The result was bizarrely shaped subjects for paintings.
Washing off black mascara
Another way to tint paper in an original way (attention, the process is very messy). You will need sheets of paper, white gouache, drawing ink, and a large brush. The paper must be very thick so that it does not tear when washed. We paint over the central part of the sheet with white gouache (you don’t have to try to make the outline even, chaotic strokes will do). We wait until the paint dries. Now carefully paint over the entire sheet with black ink. Let it dry again.
Now we take the dried sheet and go to the bathroom. Gently wash off the mascara from the sheet under running water (you can lightly rub it with your hands). Wash the middle part of the sheet (the mascara on top of the gouache should wash off easily). And the edges of the sheet, since the ink has been absorbed into the paper, will remain black. Place the washed sheet on a stack of newspapers and leave to dry. While you wait, wash the bathtub, otherwise the mascara will become very stubborn.
Let's look at an example of decorating a wall using the frottage technique.
A thin layer of decorative plaster is applied to the wall surface. Then, using ordinary tulle, the design is transferred. We transfer the tulle pattern to the wall as follows. To do this, carefully place a piece of material of sufficient size onto the wet plaster.
Additionally, apply another thin layer of plaster on top with a spatula. We align everything well. Leave the tulle on the wall for just a few minutes and then carefully remove it. The tulle is removed, but the design remains.
By rubbing the plaster onto the design, it was imprinted on our work surface. Let it dry, go over it with a little fine sandpaper to remove any possible unevenness and you can start painting if necessary, shading the texture of the design with paints of various shades.
Using the same techniques, you can decorate old furniture using the frottage technique, giving it a second life, as well as ceramic products.
Drawing with threads
A very unconventional way of drawing that gives amazing results. You will need paper, ink and thick knitting threads. Dip a piece of thread in ink and lay it out beautifully on a sheet of paper (but the tip of the thread should extend beyond the edge). Cover with another sheet of paper, place a book on top and press down lightly with your hand. Now slowly pull the thread out. When you remove the book and separate the pages, you will see that both sheets of paper are covered with a beautiful intricate design. The pattern can be further developed into a full-fledged drawing.

Believe me, these are not all the methods, methods and techniques of drawing that you can try if you want something unusual in your creativity. In the end, no one is stopping you from using your imagination and trying to come up with something new!
At what age can you draw with children using the frottage technique?
Even a child can master the frottage technique. As soon as he develops the ability to hold a pencil or felt-tip pen in his hand, little by little he can begin to practice. Start by simply putting a pencil in his hand and working with him.
The frottage technique helps accelerate the all-round development of the child. Kids watch with delight as a fairy-tale drawing appears from under a pencil as if by magic. Imagine with it, find interesting images in your print.
The positive aspect of drawing using the frottage technique is that a person who really wants to draw, but does not know how or is afraid of a bad result, will always cope with the task and get a beautiful image. This is a psychological positive aspect of this technique.
